Her Haven Retreat Center Open House

An Open House will be held at Her Haven Retreat Center in Beaver Dam, WI, on Sunday, August 8, 2010 from 12:30 – 4 pm.

Her Haven Retreat Center is a gift to this community from Susan Sponeybarger, a community member who passed away in the summer of 2007. It is a small cottage on Beaver Dam Lake, which is available to rent, by the day, week, or weekend. It sits right on the water with a deck overlooking the bay. The cottage is newly remodeled and can sleep 5-6 people. There is one bedroom,
a small loft and one bathroom available. A pier on the lake is available to fish off of or to just sit and watch the sunset. The cottage is just an easy 45 minute drive from Madison. It is located in a residential area, so being mindful that there are neighbors close by is important.

For rental information, contact the church office at 608-221-1376. A map with directions is available in the narthex.

Fall Program Host Orientation

If you would like to host a small study group for the Fall Program, please contact Rev. Marshall. This year the program will focus on the book Lessons in Truth by Emilie Cady. Orientation is August 8 at noon.

Tapping Group

Our next monthly meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 17 from 7-8:30 pm.
The doors will be open at 6:45 pm. Meditation is from 7-7:15 pm.

The group is primarily open to those who attended the workshop in May led by Dr. Landrith using the EFTh method (but all are welcome).

Faith for Haiti

Sale of Faith prints to benefit Haiti’s earthquake victims will continue through the end of this year in the Unity bookstore. To date, Unity of Madison has donated $180 in print sale proceeds to Physicians for Peace for their work there! Contact Helen Kenyon at 608-217-3696 for information.

Town Hall Meeting

A town hall meeting will be held Sunday, July 25, at 12 noon in the Sanctuary. Topics to be discussed include: the accessibility project, church finances, and the Beaver Dam property: Her Haven Retreat Center.

Christmas in July Deadline

Below is the Domestic Abuse Intervention Services wish list which Unity is pleased to turn into a Manifestation List! I spoke with Wendy Tougas, the shelter coordinator, and she said that our gifts were very important to them last summer, helping them through a tough funding time. Donations will be accepted at Unity through Aug. 1.

As you’re picking out your gift(s), keep especially in mind the starred items; I asked Wendy to indicate what were particular needs at this time. The one that jumped out for me were box fans, since I can remember the misery of sweltering heat without air conditioning! If your summer finds you busier and not at Unity very often, you can still participate by picking out an item on this list and dropping it off before Aug. 1. Or checks made out to DAIS are also very welcome. This year everyone who contributes will receive a hand-made DAIS-mark to bookmark your books and provide an incentive to mark the beauty of each day.

The Christmas in July committee: Karen Lund, David Pauly, Marcia Helgerson, and Jennifer Parker

Share the Harvest

Urgent! Your help is needed due to the loss of our main produce supplier for “Sharing the Harvest.” That means we may only have a SMALL amount of produce to sell this year. So, if you have any produce, (even a few items), please help us out by bringing it to sell or donate!

Would you like to sell or donate produce OR arts, crafts, jewelry, jellies/jams, cloth shopping bags, etc.? Would you like to set up an informational table?

Share the Harvest will take place 2nd and 4th Sundays this summer after the 8:30 and 10:30 services:

  • July 11 & 25 (2nd & 4th Sunday)
  • Aug 8 & 22 (2nd & 4th Sunday)
  • Sept. 12 & 26 (2nd & 4th Sunday)

Reminders:

  • The event will be on the lawn (or hospitality in case of rain).
  • Set up from 9-9:30 am, so that we are ready for people coming out after the first service. Customers might browse before the 10:30 service.
  • If selling, you will be 100% responsible for your own table.
  • Please bring your own table, or Unity has extras.
  • Bring money for making change and paper bags for customers.
  • A love offering is requested as a donation to Unity of Madison – 10% of proceeds is suggested.
  • Please price items, even if you are donating them. (If you are donating and would like to help sell that would be great!)
  • We will have a table set up and paper bags for customers.
  • Baked goods must have an ingredients card posted in the display area, or attached to the baked goods.
  • You may set up an informational table that relates to sustainability, our environment or any of the items you bring.

For more information, talk to Diane Pauly and members of the Green Team.

Garden Team

The garden team will meet each Thursday from 5-7 pm. Call Joanne Ruzicka at 608-838-4867 or Ann Munkres at 608-221-2252 for info.

If that time is not convenient or you are new to the team, please call Mary Miyagawa to arrange a time to come. No experience necessary- just a love of flowers and growing things.

Adopt A Highway

The Unity Green Team is sponsoring Adopt A Highway. Work date is Sunday Sept. 19. The group will carpool from the Unity parking lot at 12:30 pm (after a bring-your-own brown bag lunch in the hospitality area).

Volunteers should dress for cleaning/picking up on the highway. Wear strong shoes, and cover your legs.

The cleanup area will be on County Hwy AB starting at 12 & 18 to County Hwy MN (about two miles).

Look for a sign up sheet located on the table at the parking lot side of the foyer. Volunteers must be 11 years of age or older.
